Does anything about the layout, design, or functionality of your home limit or inhibit your activities of daily living? If so, what is it about your home that is limiting, what activities are being limited, and what would you like changed?

Below are universal design considerations that have the potential to enrich and enable your home life:

• Does your home have at least one no-threshold entry or a one-step entry?
  Where would be the best location to modify an existing entry to a no-threshold entry or a one-step entry?
• Are the hallways and interior doorways of adequate width? Are the floor coverings manageable? Are the light switches and outlets conveniently accessible to everyone in your household?
• If your home has a staircase, are the stairs manageable for everyone in your household? Does the location of the staircase promote its accessibility?
• Does your kitchen have adequate general maneuvering space? Are the appliances and their controls accessible for everyone in your household who needs to use them? Is the sink and faucet accessible for everyone in your household? Could the cabinetry or countertop space be more efficiently utilized, with easier access for everyone in your household?
• Is the location of your bedroom accessible? Do you or someone in your household need a first floor accessible bedroom? Does your bedroom have adequate maneuvering space, with full access to the bed, closet, and dressing area?
• Is the location of your bathroom accessible? Do you or someone in your household need a first floor accessible full bathroom? Does your bathroom have adequate maneuvering space, with full access to shower/tub, commode, sink, and faucet? Are there any additional constraints to fulfilling your daily self care needs?
• Is the laundry area, washer and dryer, accessible for everyone in your household who needs to use them? Are all the environmental controls accessible?
